After attending YRDSB's Quest 2016 Conference our Leadership Team was inspired to bring a Modern Learning focus back to our school. When planning for our first staff meeting in December, we seemed to share a common frustration that there "never seems to be much learning permanence" with whatever professional learning model we have tried. With this in mind, we decided to provide our staff with an authentic learning inquiry as a means for learning and working together.
"How do we become The Number 1 school in the world?”.
Why not walk through the entire process together as a staff. Authentic Learning completely and totally. And so the facilitation began...using PA Days, staff meetings and embedded professional learning time staff explored what the #1 school in the world might look like. After much discussion, contemplation and examination, we eventually agreed on 6 foci to help us research, examine and plan the work that we will do together. Staff then chose their team based on passion and interest out of the 6 foci:
Teaching and Learning, Technology, Media and Communication, Funding & Resources Physical Environment, School Culture & Climate, School Design, Organization & Collaboration
We created a Google + community entitled Imagine Fossil where we as a staff post, collaborate, and comment throughout our learning process. A twitter account called ImagineFHPS and a blog ImagineFHPS@Blogspot.ca has been created in order to share and document our journey. We hope to connect professionally with other schools and professionals around the world in order to learn from and refine our vision in order to become, The #1 School in the World.
